Help Raise $100,000 for the National Park Foundation
— James Bryce,
British Ambassador to the U.S., 1912
The dramatic plateaus, river-cut canyons, 277-mile length and unparalleled panoramas of the Grand Canyon make this Arizona park one of the most visited in the country, with more than 5 million individuals arriving each year.
An Extraordinary Setting
Grand Canyon National Park, a favorite area of Theodore Roosevelt, was created in 1919 and named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979. It encompasses more than a million acres that include nearly every type of ecosystem in the southwestern U.S. Grand Canyon National Park’s exposed rock strata rise a mile above the Colorado River.

Best-Kept Secret
Little is known about the park’s last remaining large predator, the elusive mountain lion (Puma Concolor), which inhabits the canyons and forests. But in July 2007 three five-week-old mountain lions were captured, tagged and released. Researchers hope to learn more about the species’ range and habits from monitoring the kittens as they grow.
