If you’re typically out during the day, your home doesn’t need to be maintained at a comfortable 72 degrees. A programmable thermostat allows you to pre-program temperature settings.

   I never leave any of my chargers plugged in overnight.

   I keep appliances such as the toaster, coffee pot and microwave unplugged. These appliances really don't need to be plugged in unless in use. Also, we have two home offices. When not in use such as overnight, I turn the power off on the power strips themselves. I'm conviced this saves quite a bit. Since I've been working out of my home, my electricity cost has bearly increased. We've also replaced all of our indoor lighting with the newer more energy efficient light bulbs.

   I always keep the curtains closed to keep the sun from warming the house.

   When we leave the house for a few days, I shut off power to my hot-water heater. No use keeping that water warm when no one is around. Just takes 20 or so minutes to heat when we get back home.

   Ever hear of charging the kids .25 cents everytime they forget to turn out the light when they leave a room?

   I turn my thermostat down to 65 degrees during the day and at night when we are in bed.
