Simple Solutions

Parenting expert Stacy DeBroff offers four online tools to help your family get organized.

Stacy DeBroff - article

Being organized is easier said than done. Luckily, a mom’s life can be more time efficient thanks to the Internet and new high-tech resources. Here are four of my favorite online organizational tools.

Photo Sharing

Just like most everything else these days, scrapbooking has gone digital. Moms have countless numbers of photos saved haphazardly on their computers but no time to put them into baby books that have been sitting around since their 10-year-old was born. With online photo-sharing and scrapbooking sites such as flickr.com , snapfish.com and photobucket.com, organizing photos is easier than ever. With one-click downloads from your digital camera or computer, you have access to automatically arranged photos, editing tools and other features to help you make a digital album. You can also order custom made photo products and prints from many sites. So instead of having to carve out an entire weekend to turn those forgotten shoebox photos into beautiful memories, spending a mere half hour at the computer is all it takes.

E-vitations

With e-vite invitations, everything you need to stage an event is finally all in one place. You can set up address books, design digital invitations and send them out in minutes. Sites such as evite.com and sendomatic.com also allow you to post directions and maps, have RSVP updates sent to your e-mail or phone, and research party ideas. Other e-vite sites will also allow you to post pictures and comments after the party. So whether you’re gearing up for a summer bash or planning a birthday party for your toddler, the Internet makes organizing and getting in touch with your friends a piece of cake.

Organizing Sports Activities

A number of sites, including eteamz.com and weplay.com, make organizing and communicating with your team a cinch. You can set up a team home page that features rosters, player stats, photos and schedules. The site can even be used to create blogs about your team, recruit extra helpers and keep track of your competition. Whether you’re the seasoned coach of a high-school football team or a parent coaching your four-year-old’s soccer league, eteamz.com has the resources you need to make this season the best one ever.

Makinglifebetter.com’s Family Organizer Powered by Cozi

This family organizer is a free resource that allows the whole family to stay connected in a new and effective way. The family journal feature makes keeping track of important milestones and photos simple, and the color-coded, shared family calendar will ensure that every member of your family is always in the know. Cozi also allows you to schedule events, make shopping and to-do lists and send reminders and messages to other family members via text message or e-mail. Forgot to bring your grocery list to the store? Grocery or other shopping lists can be sent to your cell phone, printed, or with a quick call to Cozi, even read to you over the phone 24/7. Best of all, Cozi can be accessed by your entire family from their computers, phones or PDAs. To sign up, visit cozi.com/makinglifebetter.
